For example, before being able to start a design, you must have something like 25 sets of sketches to show your thought process in creating said design. These hours in studio create a wormhole that suck away hours upon hours of a students life while they rot away working in their sketchbooks. 3- Real Food: The fact about lack of money and lack of free-time means cheap food that is quick [or even instant] to make such as Ramen, Easy Mac, PB&J or Quesadillas.

Top 5 things the college [and especially the art/design] student realizes they took for granted their freshman year:

5- Money:
Being a full time art student means very little or no time for a job (unless it means selling that art) and any incoming funds usually goes towards the art, thus being an awful check and balance system to insure the student stays flat broke.

4- Free-time:
Studio art and design classes are based around quality of work, time put into work, articulation of ideas and repetition. For example, before being able to start a design, you must have something like 25 sets of sketches to show your thought process in creating said design. These hours in studio create a wormhole that suck away hours upon hours of a students life while they rot away working in their sketchbooks.

3- Real Food:
The fact about lack of money and lack of free-time means cheap food that is quick [or even instant] to make such as Ramen, Easy Mac, PB&J or Quesadillas. All of these are made with either microwave or better yet, just a knife. But my favorite isn’t even on this list… my favorite is Black Beans with Cheese. The perfect food for the art/design student is quick, cheap and has some flavor (flavor is optional).

2- Sleep:
A late night is the easiest solution to the lack of time in a day but the supply of coffee better be high or passing out in your art supplies is a definite possibility. Many art and design students find that evenings are the easiest time to concentrate and get their best work done, but it comes with a cost and that cost is cutting the 8 hours a night to 5 or even 4. Thank God for coffee!

1- Showers and Hygiene:
The constant flow of projects mixed with balancing studio hours with core classes and the few hours of sleep leaves only a few minutes free during the day. This time is often added to sleep since college students can’t get enough of it but that means that we neglect something else, something important… what was it again though? Whatever it is, I haven’t done it in awhile… ohhh yeah! Showers! Showers have easily become my favorite activity and I cherish every second of that shower like it was my last (cause it easily could be my last, for a few days that is). And this helps add to the art student stereotype of being unshowered, I guess that is why we have the stereotype, cause it is usually true.
